Methods:We conducted a prospective, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of two products for weight loss (Xenical and Zepbound) in type 2 diabetes patients with obesity. All patients met the following criteria: 1) age ≥ 45 years and BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 and 2) diagnosis of overweight or obesity. We performed a 12-week open-label treatment with two products in a single dose to assess the effect of each product on body weight loss. We also assessed the safety and efficacy of the two products in terms of change in weight or waist circumference.
Results:The mean change in weight was 3.9 kg in Xenical and 4.9 kg in Zepbound after 24 weeks of treatment. The mean change in waist circumference was 2.2 cm in Xenical and 2.7 cm in Zepbound after 12 weeks of treatment.
Conclusion:The results of this open-label study showed that both products have a modest weight loss effect with a decrease in waist circumference of > 2 cm in both groups. Both products were well tolerated by the patients.
